Rowan Routs Rutgers-Camden, 9-1

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women’s soccer team defeated Rutgers-Camden, 9-1 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Thursday night.

The Profs, ranked fourth in the nation and first in the South Atlantic region in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America polls, improve to 15-1-1 overall and 9-0 in the conference. Rowan has a 12 game win streak. It is the first time the Profs have ever gone unbeaten in the NJAC. The Scarlet Raptors have a 7-11-1 record with a 2-6-1 conference mark.

Midfielder Nina Fragoso (so. Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Reg.) led Rowan with two goals and one assist. Forward Jess Babice (jr. Groveville, NJ/Steinert) and midfielder Evynn Wright (so. Marlton, NJ/Eastern Reg.) added two goals apiece. Forward Melanie Wittenberger (fr. Tabernacle, NJ/Seneca), midfielder Audrey Gagnon (fr. South Amboy, NJ/South Amboy) and back Leah Carney (so. Mickleton, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) each found the net once.

Forward Veronica Rhea (so. Pennsauken, NJ/Paul VI) picked up two assists. Backs Christine Foy (so. Hamilton, NJ/Steinert), Caitlin Toomey (sr. Brick, NJ/Brick Mem.) and Linda Sierra (so. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) all had one assist. For Rutgers-Camden, forward Jessica Ramirez (jr. Union, NJ/Union) recorded one goal.

Rowan took 23 shots, while Rutgers-Camden had seven. Goalkeeper Kate Harman (sr. Laurel Springs, NJ/Sterling) made four saves for the Profs. Scarlet Raptors’ goalkeepers Elizabeth Malony (fr. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.), Vanessa Maia (jr. Union, NJ/Union) and Stephanie McHugh (so. Sicklerville, NJ/Timber Creek) each stopped one shot.

Rowan is the top seed in the NJAC Championship Tournament and will receive a bye in the first round. In the semifinals on Tuesday, November 3, the Profs will host the winner of the first round contest between the fourth and fifth seeds. The final is on Friday, November 6 at the highest seed. The NJAC champion earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.
