CAMDEN, NJ – The Rowan University men’s soccer team defeated Rutgers-Camden, 2-1 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Wednesday night.
The Profs improve to 11-5-2 overall and 5-2-2 in the conference. The Scarlet Raptors have an 8-9-3 record with a 3-4-2 NJAC mark.
Forward Julian Berrios (fr. Lakewood, NJ/Calvary Academy) scored the game-winner with 13:18 remaining in the second half. Berrios turned and shot the ball from inside the box. Rutgers-Camden went ahead 1-0 at 3:46 in the first period. Midfielder Shane McGrory (jr. Laurel Springs, NJ/Sterling) dribbled through the Rowan defense and scored from the middle of the box. Rowan forward Mike Pascale (sr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River S.) tied the game (1-1) with an unassisted goal 1:07 later.
Rutgers-Camden took 22 shots, while Rowan had 12. Goalkeeper Charlie Cunliffe (jr. Lakewood, NJ/Lakewood) made nine saves for the Profs. Scarlet Raptors’ goalkeeper Tim VanLiew (so. Deptford, NJ/Deptford) stopped five shots.
Rowan earned a berth in the NJAC Championship Tournament but the seed is yet to be determined. The first round is on Saturday, October 31. The semifinals and final are on Wednesday, November 4 and Saturday, November 7 respectively. The NJAC champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.
