Rowan Defeats Salisbury; Lisa Eclipses the 400 Win Mark

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men’s and women’s swim teams defeated Salisbury University on Tuesday. The men won, 141-112, while the women had a 140-114 victory.

With the wins, head coach Tony Lisa earned his 400th and 401st victories at the University. Lisa’s combined record at Rowan stands at 401-129-1 in 31 seasons. He has a 230-78-1 mark with the men (31 years) and a 171-51 record coaching the women (22 years). The Prof men and women both improve to 2-0, while the Sea Gull men and women each have a 1-1 record.

Rowan won both 200 yard medley relays. The women took first place with a time of 1:55.35. The relay consisted of Kate Winters (jr. Princeton Jct., NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro S.), Ashley Gagnon (sr. S. Amboy, NJ/Middlesex County Academy), Stacey Rahter (jr. Somers Point, NJ/Mainland Reg.) and Lauren Hauser (sr. Mountainside, NJ/Governor Livingston). The men’s team of Matt Marzolf (so. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.), Dan Bower (so. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.), Steve Tucker (sr. Pittsgrove, NJ/Sacred Heart) and Bill Malone (so. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) captured first in 1:42.20.

Winters was the winner in the 100 (1:02.49) and 200 yard backstrokes (2:14.17) and 500 yard freestyle (5:32.69). In the 200 yard freestyle, Rahter and Jackie Heide (so. Cherry Hill, NJ/Camden Catholic) finished first (2:01.46) and second (2:08.63) respectively. Rahter also had a first place in the 100 yard butterfly (1:01.82). Gagnon was first in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:11.81) and 200 yard breaststroke (2:37.51).

Julie Furdyna (jr. Livingston, NJ/Livingston) came in first in the 1000 yard freestyle (11:26.77). Anne O’Gorman (jr. Boonton, NJ/Academy of St. Elizabeth) won the 200 yard butterfly (2:19.21). Hauser captured first place in the 50 yard freestyle (26.30) and Teresa Stearns (fr. Absecon, NJ/Holy Spirit) followed second (26.60). Heide placed first in the 100 yard freestyle (56.54). Megg McCourt (sr. Wenonah, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) was first in the 200 yard IM (2:22.35).

Kate Toomer (fr. Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) had a third place in the 1000 yard freestyle (11:31.45). Steph McAllister (sr. Mickleton, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) took third in the 100 yard backstroke (1:05.59) and 200 yard backstroke (2:24.05). Stearns came in third in the 100 yard freestyle (58.77).

For the men, Bower was first in the 100 (1:02.04) and 200 yard breaststrokes (2:23.28). Brian McDermott (jr. Bergenfield, NJ/Bergen Catholic) had a first place in the 200 yard butterfly (2:11.22) and 200 yard backstroke (2:06.41). In the 50 yard freestyle, Malone came in first place (22.73) followed by Stefan Pietrobono (fr. Newark, DE/Brandywine) second (23.14). Malone also won the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 50.12.

Kyle Banks (fr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) was the winner in the 1000 yard freestyle (10:44.48). Tim Dimond (fr. Allentown, PA/Emmaus) and Michael Brooks (jr. Brigantine, NJ/Holy Spirit) took first (1:48.10) and second (1:52.72) respectively in the 200 yard freestyle. Brooks claimed first in the 500 yard freestyle (5:12.85), while Dimond had a first place in the 200 yard IM (2:07.32). Tucker finished first in the 100 yard butterfly (56.64). Marzolf won the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 58.58.

Kevin Sheridan (so. E. Brunswick, NJ/E. Brunswick) came in second place in the 100 yard freestyle (51.64). Charlie Borny (fr. Turnersville, NJ/Washington Twp.) took third in the 1000 yard freestyle (11:01.14). Ryan Walker (fr. Union, NJ/Union Catholic) captured third in the 100 yard backstroke (1:00.45).
