Rowan Defeats Frostburg State, 7-0

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University field hockey team won 7-0 over Frostburg State University on Saturday night in a torrential downpour.

Forward Lauren Ross (jr. Gloucester City, NJ/Gloucester) and midfielder Ashley Adams (so. Erial, NJ/Timber Creek) each scored twice. Midfielder Julie Cairone (so. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) and forwards Nicole Valianti (jr. Oaklyn, NJ/Collingswood) and Bailey Van Jura (so. Tunkhannock, PA/Dallas) each contributed with a goal. Forward Laura DiMenna (so. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) totaled two assists while midfielder Jenna Lomardo (sr. Barnegat, NJ/Southern Reg.) and Adams had one apiece.

Eighth ranked Rowan is 11-4 overall while Frostburg State drops to 7-9 on the season. The Profs totaled 20 shots and the Bobcats took 17. Goalie Lisa Apt (so. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) was in the Rowan cage for the first half and Jen Goldberg (fr. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) made three saves in the second. For Frostburg, goalie Maggie Edwards (fr. Lebanon, NJ/Hunterdon Central Reg.) stopped seven shots.

The Profs were ahead 6-0 after the first half. Ross scored the first goal in 24 seconds. She knocked in a rebound after her first shot. Cairone tipped in a shot by Lombardo at 5:59. Valianti scored unassisted (14:33) and Ross (17:50) picked up her second goal. DiMenna assisted on Ross’ goal.

Adams made the score 5-0 with an unassisted goal at 23:21. Van Jura (28:50) ended the first half scoring with a pass from Adams. In the final period, Adams scored for the second time (51:30) with an assist from DiMenna.

Rowan hosts conference opponent Richard Stockton College on Tuesday, October 27 at 7 p.m.
