WAYNE, NJ – The Rowan University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams opened the season with a sweep over conference opponent William Paterson University on Wednesday. The men won 135-91 while the women had a score of 137-87.

The Profs won both the men’s and women’s 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays. The men swam a time of 1:42.91 with the medley team of Matt Marzolf (so. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic), Dan Bower (so. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.), Steve Tucker (sr. Pittsgrove, NJ/Sacred Heart) and Stefan Pietrobono (fr. Newark, DE/Brandywine). The free relay was first in 1:30.31 with Pietrobono, Bill Malone (so. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic), Tim Dimond (fr. Allentown, PA/Emmaus) and Michael Brooks (jr. Brigantine, NJ/Holy Spirit).
 
The women’s medley relay came in first (1:56.66) with Kate Winters (jr. West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro S.), Stacey Rahter (jr. Somers Point, NJ /Mainland Reg.), Ashley Gagnon (sr. South Amboy, NJ/Middlesex County Academy) and Lauren Hauser (sr. Mountainside, NJ/Governor Livingston). Anne O’Gorman (jr. Boonton, NJ/Academy of St. Elizabeth), Jackie Heide (so. Cherry Hill, NJ/Camden Catholic), Teresa Stearns (fr. Absecon, NJ/Holy Spirit) and Hauser were on the winning freestyle relay (1:47.34).  

Hauser was the winner (26.54) in the 50 freestyle. In the 1,000 freestyle, Julianne Furdyna (jr. Livingston, NJ/Livingston) was first (11:29.85) followed by Kate Toomer (fr. Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) second (11:35.36). Winters won the 200 freestyle (2:05.72) and Heide was second (2:10.26).  Toomer took first place (5:37.29) in 500 freestyle.

Kymberleigh Romano (fr. Ringoes, NJ/Hunterdon Central Reg) was the winner in the 200 individual medley (2:23.76). Rahter won the 100 freestyle with a time of 57.03. McCourt was second in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.30) and Romano took third (1:16.30). O’Gorman swam a winning time of 1:03.71 in the 100 butterfly and Winters won the 100 backstroke (1:02.79).
 
In diving, Mark Balesteri (jr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) won the one and three meter diving.  Balesteri totaled 235.50 points on the one meter board and 247.90 in the three meter.  Zach Castelli (fr. Ventnor, NJ/Atlantic City) had second places in the one (212.20) and three (233.15) meter diving. For the women, Sam Rottkamp (so. Bridgeton, NJ/Cumberland Reg.) took first place in the one (217.50) and three (205.80) meter diving.
 
For the Profs, Brooks was the winner in the 1,000 freestyle in 10:57.85.  Malone won the 200 freestyle (1:52.45) and Kevin Sheridan (so. E. Brunswick, NJ/E. Brunswick) was second (1:58.07).  Marzolf took first in the 100 backstroke (57.24). Chris Lombardo (jr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River E.) was the winner in the 100 butterfly (57:63). 
 
Dimond came in first in the 200 individual medley (2:06.48) and Bower took first place (1:03.77) in the 100 breaststroke. In the 50 freestyle, Pietrobono finished second (22.80). Malone had a second place in the 100 freestyle (49.32) while Sheridan was third (51.70). 

Next week, Rowan hosts Salisbury University on Tuesday, October 27 at 6 p.m.
