Forward Matt Byrnes (sr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) guided the men’s basketball team to a 4-0 week. Byrnes also became the school’s all-time leading scorer with 1,663 points. He surpassed the previous mark of 1,628 points held by Terrence Stewart (1992-96). Against Neumann (Dec. 5), Byrnes scored a season-high 37 points. In the first round of the Heritage’s Dairy Stores Classic, Byrnes posted 33 points versus Valley Forge Christian College (Dec. 7). In the championship game against Penn State Brandywine (Dec. 8), he recorded 28 points to become the all-time scoring leader. He was selected the Most Valuable Player of the tournament. At Gwynedd-Mercy College (Dec. 10), Byrnes totaled 28 points, nine rebounds and five assists. He leads the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) with 26.9 points per game and was named this week’s NJAC Player of the Week.
