GLASSBORO, NJ -- Behind a match-high 16 kills from
Jessica Smart, Rowan defeated William Paterson, 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-18), in the Profs' NJAC opener Tuesday night at Esby Gym.
The win extends the team's unbeaten stretch to nine games and improves the team to 11-2 and 1-0 in conference play.
Smart added two blocks (one solo) while
Abby Chadwick contributed seven kills, five digs, and served up four of the team's 10 aces. As a team, Rowan hit .247 (34-18-85) with 33 assists, 28 of which came from setter
Raven Albrecht.
After a 9-1 run opened up a 10-9 Rowan lead in the first set, the Profs held off a late charge from the Pioneers to claim a 1-0 lead. William Paterson's Cecilia Miller notched three kills in a four-point span in the second to pull the visitors to 16-15 before the Profs pulled away to take the set.
Smart tallied six of her kills in the final frame as the Profs got out to a 12-3 advantage and did not look back.
Miller finished with seven kills for the Pioneers (7-6, 1-1 NJAC) while teammate Makayda Aldrich paced William Paterson with eight enders.
Rowan is right back at it on Thursday with a NJAC matchup at Ramapo.
