GLASSBORO, NJ - A goal by
Evan Vilaboy with 50 seconds remaining lifted #12 Rowan men's soccer to a thrilling 2-1 victory over Stockton in the season opener for both teams, as the NJAC rivals met in a non-conference matchup.
Stockton tied the match in the 66th minute and it appeared as if the teams were headed for a draw. But
Korey Philpot sent a long ball into the box which was headed by
Luke McNamee to VIlaboy, who headed it over the keeper from close range with :50 left on the clock. It was the first Rowan goal for Vilaboy, who joined the squad as a junior transfer from Marist.
Philpot, a junior transfer from Elon, had a hand in both goals in his first game as a Prof.
Freshman
DJ Mosley scored the first goal of his career, and of Rowan's season, at 56:22 to put the Profs ahead, 1-0. He took a lead pass from Philpot and put in a shot that bounced in off the crossbar.
Freshman
Mike Moore was the starter in goal for Rowan and made one save on the evening while the Profs outshot the Ospreys, 14-7.
Rowan and Stockton will meet again on October 21 in Galloway, NJ, in the match that will count in the NJAC standings.
Rowan (1-0) goes on the road to visit Dickinson on Friday and then returns home on September 9 to host Ursinus at 7 p.m.
