#23 Softball Goes Extra Innings in Both Wins of a Doubleheader Sweep at TCNJ, 3-0, and 4-3

EWING, NJ -- #23 Rowan used extra innings in each victory of its NJAC doubleheader sweep at TCNJ on Tuesday. The Profs used a two-run home run from Maggie Funston in the eighth inning as part of a three-run frame to win game one, 3-0. Game two had Rowan getting the go-ahead run in the eighth to win, 4-3, and extend its win streak to four games.

Game one
Funston was 2-for-3 as her first collegiate homer came as she led off a scoreless eighth inning.

Starter BethAnne Doderer (11-2) allowed just three hits with 5 K's and no walks as the sophomore went all eight innings.

The Profs looked to get on the board in the fourth with runners on second and third with one out, but the Lions' Maya Knasiak was able to get out of the jam to keep things at zero.

With pinch runner Gia DiMeglio placed on second to start the eighth, Funston went deep to left to give the Profs a two-run lead. Two batters later, Mikayla Dansky singled and later stole second to move into scoring position. Zoey Rogers' fly out to left helped Dansky take third, bu the throw in from right field was off the mark allowing Dansky to score.

Doderer sent TCNJ down in order in over the final four innings to pick up the win.

Game two
The Lions erased a 3-0 Rowan lead, getting the tying run in the seventh to force another extra-inning affair.

Dansky scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Ava Fisher in the first and would score again in the third after a one-out triple. In the fifth, Kate Evick knocked in Rogers to give the Profs a 3-0 edge.

A pair of errors in the sixth allowed TCNJ to score two unearned runs to cut into the lead. Starter Emily McCutcheon battled through a tough seventh inning where the Lions plated another unearned run to knot things up at 3-3.

Now in the top of the eighth and with Rogers placed at second, the freshman stole third and came home to score on a wild pitch two batters later to reclaim the lead.

In the bottom half, the Profs turned a game-ending double play as a liner to Abigail Pawlowski to left was pulled in and the throw back to second was able to double-off pinch-runner Kaitlyn Carollo lock up the conference doubleheader sweep.

Dansky (2-for-4) and Rodgers (1-for-4) each scored twice with Pawlowski adding a double in the eighth. McCutcheon (9-5) scattered six hits, with three unearned runs, three strikeouts, and zero walks.

The Profs will travel to New Jersey City on Saturday for two games vs. the Gothic Knights. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
