WINTER HAVEN, FL -
Zach Coluccio recorded a career-high 11 strikeouts to lead #8/#10 Rowan to an 18-1 victory over Keystone in the Profs' opening game of their Spring Break trip at the RussMatt Invitational.
Mason Dorsey and
Kyle Lamanteer had three hits each, and
Damon Suriani drove in four runs, as Rowan (4-0) scored nine runs in the ninth inning to record the rout.
Coluccio (2-0) went seven innings and scattered five hits, with the only run coming on a Keystone (6-7) home run by in the seventh inning.
Dane Samartino made his Rowan debut and went 1.2 innings without allowing a run or a hit.
The Profs went up 3-0 in the third inning as
Damon Suriani was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded,
Jason Schooley hit a sacrifice fly and
Nick Struble singled. Rowan added three more in the fifth as Dorsey drew a bases-loaded walk and Lamanteer hit a two-run single.
Suriani drove in two runs in the sixth and seventh innings, and
Brayden Davis had an RBI double in the sixth to give Rowan a 9-0 lead. Keystone ended the shutout bid in the seventh as Benny Hess homered.
In the nine-run final inning, Rowan was helped by six walks or hit batters from the Giants' pitchers. Among the big hits were RBI singles from Suriani and Schooley and a two-run single by Dorsey.
The Profs will play SUNY Oneonta on Friday at 1 p.m. (note time change) at Northeast Regional Park in Davenport, FL.
