Davis, Lamanteer and Rothwein Named NJAC Athletes of the Week

PITMAN, NJ – Rowan's Brayden Davis (baseball), Kyle Lamanteer (baseball) and Madison Rothwein (lacrosse) were honored in their respective sports as NJAC Athletes of the Week for the week ending March 8. It marks the first NJAC honors of the year for all three Profs.

Davis was named the Baseball Player of the Week as he had a superb start to the season, batting .769 (10-for-13) in #8 Rowan's first three games. The junior totaled four runs, 10 RBI, five doubles and three home runs in the three wins.

He started out the season hitting a walk-off home run in the 11-inning 9-7 win over #21 Penn State Harrisburg. That shot was his second of the game as he had previously hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game, 6-6, and send it to extra innings. Davis went 3-for-5 with two runs and a career-high six RBI in that game.

In the doubleheader sweep of Vermont State Castleton, Davis went 7-for-8 with five doubles, two runs, four RBI and one home run.  In Game 1 (7-3 win), he was 4-for-4 with a run and two RBI, including a solo HR in the eighth inning. In Game 2 (14-3 win), he was 3-for-4 with three doubles, a run and two RBI. Davis also doubled in the Profs' final run in the sixth which secured Rowan's 10-plus run lead to end the game at 7 innings.  

Lamanteer, a freshman infielder, was named the Baseball Rookie of the Week as he batted .600 (3-for-5) with three runs, three RBI and two home runs in two games. He went 1-for-1 with a run scored in the 9-7 extra-inning win over #21 Penn State Harrisburg. He made the first start of his career against Vermont State Castleton and went 2-for-4 with two home runs in the 7-3 win. Lamanteer broke a 2-2 tie in the second inning with a two-run homer and then hit a solo shot in the fifth to give Rowan a 6-2 lead.

The 3-0 Profs will head to Florida for Spring Break and the RussMatt Invitational, playing eight games from March 12-20. First up is Keystone on Thursday with a 6 p.m. start.

Rothwein, a sophomore transfer, was chosen as the Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week. She helped the Profs to a pair of wins last week, including one over then-#15 Stevens, 13-11, by recording four goals, seven ground balls, five caused turnovers and 12 draw controls. She scored two goals and picked up three ground balls, three caused turnovers in the 15-7 win over Ursinus.

In the win at Stevens, the midfielder accumulated two goals, seven ground balls, two caused turnovers, and four draw controls. Rothwein tallied her second goal with 8:56 left in the fourth quarter to break a tie and give the Profs an 11-10 lead. She now has 10 goals on the season while leading the squad with 23 draw controls.

The Profs (3-1), now ranked #22, will take on another ranked foe when they host #15 Scranton on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
