GLASSBORO, NJ - Second-half goals by
Sydney Kowalczyk and
Ava Thomas lifted #14 Rowan field hockey to a 3-1 win over #22 Swarthmore.
Lily Bataloni also scored for Rowan (2-0) while
Mariah Juiliano was solid in the cage for the Profs.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
Swarthmore (1-2) tied the game, 1-1, at 36:01, but Kowalczyk scored 20 seconds later to provide the gamewinner. After a scramble in front for the ball, the freshman gathered it from inside 10 yards and chipped a backhand shot into the cage to put the Profs up, 2-1.
The insurance goal came at 44:29 as
Alexa Ronning sent a long pass to
Gracie Merrick, who sent it towards the goal, and Thomas deflected it in for her first goal as a Prof. (note scoring change)
Juiliano made 11 saves on the evening for Rowan as she faced 14 shots.
The Profs got on the board in the second quarter at 25:37 after
Jenna Gray fed a pass along the goal line to Bataloni, who was waiting in front of the cage to put in her first goal of the season.
Swarthmore's Annika Hoyer tied the game at 36:01 before Kowalczyk pushed Rowan ahead.
Rowan remains at home to host fifth-ranked Johns Hopkins on Saturday afternoon. Game time is 5 p.m. and fans attending Rowan's football game (at 1 p.m.) are encouraged to stay for the field hockey action shortly afterwards.
