PITMAN, NJ -- Weekly awards from the New Jersey Athletic Conference were announced on Monday which features five Rowan student-athletes;
Mordecai Ford,
Peyton Ryan,
Christian McGillen,
C.J. Norton, and
Ciara Bradley.
Ford was selected the NJAC Football Offensive Rookie of the Week as the freshman ran 13 times for 100 yards and added his first collegiate TD in Rowan's 56-0 home win over Moravian. Ford rumbled in from 46 yards in the fourth quarter for his longest run of the day. The team rolled up 496 total yards with 211 net rushing yards.
Ryan earns the NJAC Field Hockey Rookie of the Week as she helped the Profs snap a two-game losing streak. She netted her first career goal, the eventual game-winner in the 5-2 victory at Muhlenberg. After Rowan tied the game, 2-2, in the 24th minute, Ryan scored in the 31st minute to push Rowan ahead for good.
McGillen receives his first NJAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week honor. A junior transfer, he scored the winning goal in the 80th minute to give the #2 Profs a 1-0 decision over #4 Cortland in a matchup of two top-five ranked teams. It was his second goal of the season and his first game-winner at Rowan.Â
Norton, a freshman goalkeeper, earned NJAC Rookie of the Week honors as he allowed just one goal in two matches. He made two saves to record a 1-0 shutout of #4 Cortland and then limited Scranton to one goal as the Profs came away with a 1-1 tie. Norton owns a goals against average of 1.40 on the season while totaling 18 saves.Â
Bradley scored the NJAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week as the junior totaled 11 blocks (one solo) in a 3-0 week. Bradley started off the week at Muhlenberg with six kills, four digs, and four blocks. In Saturday's home tri-match, she collected six blocks (one solo), three digs, two kills and an ace in the win over Lebanon Valley.
The football team (1-0-1), who is receiving a vote in the D3football.com Top 25 Poll, has a bye this week and will return to action on Saturday, September 27th at Lycoming.
#9 Rowan Field Hockey (3-2) heads to Catholic on Wednesday and then travels to Haverford on Saturday.
The #2 ranked men's soccer squad (5-0-1) visits Haverford on Tuesday and then host Salisbury on Saturday.Â
Volleyball (7-2), winners of seven in a row, look to extend its streak this weekend at Scranton's quad-match beginning on Friday against Union.
