#2 Softball Stays Alive, Moves on to NJAC Championship Series

2025 NJAC Tournament

GLASSBORO, NJ -- #2 Rowan will play for the 2025 NJAC Championship as the Profs stood through a 2-0 loss to Ramapo in Saturday's first game, but rebounded with an 11-0 victory over Kean in an elimination game to stay alive.

Rowan will take on the Roadrunners again with a first pitch slated for 11 a.m. needing a pair of wins to claim the conference title. The 'if necessary' game would immediately follow after Sunday's opening matchup.

NJAC SOFTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL

Game one
Ramapo scored both of its runs in the third inning while the Profs totaled seven hits but left eight runners on base. Liz McCaffery and Aly Reim each had two hits apiece to pace the offense. Rowan, who was designated the away team for this game, put runners in scoring position in its first three at-bats but came away empty.

In the bottom of the third, Avery Kontura singled in Alex Hastings from second to give the Roadrunners the first run of the game. Two batters later after back-to-back walks to load the bases, pitcher Rylee Lutz fielded a grounder and went home to get the lead runner, but the throw down to first pulled first baseman Holly Markus off the bag, allowing Ysabellah Otero to score from second on the error for a two-run lead.

BethAnne Doderer entered the circle for Lutz in the fourth and threw three 1-2-3 innings to help keep the Profs in the contest. Lutz labored through three innings, giving up the two runs (one unearned) as the senior suffered her first loss of the season (18-1).

Ramapo's Marissa DiPaolo took over to start the third and limited the Profs to four hits, with three K's and a walk to earn the victory (14-4).

Game two
The Profs used an eight-run fifth inning to move on to Sunday in ending the Cougars' season as the game was halted after that fifth. Rowan put together 14 hits, four walks, and a hit by pitch to keep its quest to defend its NJAC Championship for another day.

Payton MacNair and Kate Evick each had two-run singles as a total of six Profs had two hits apiece. MacNair, Reim, and McKenzie Melvin each scored twice.

Starter Emily McCutcheon (17-1) fanned three with no walks and allowed just four hits in the five innings of work.

Leading 3-0 entering the fifth, the Profs had its first three batters reach base before Reim knocked in MacNair. The next batter was Evick who found the gap in right center to plate Breanna Bryant and Abigail Pawlowski for a 6-0 advantage. Later in the frame, MacNair added her second hit of the inning, this time a two-run base hit to score Evick and sister Zara MacNair.
