Melvin, McCaffery Help Lead #3 Softball to Two Wins over NJCU, 10-0, and 8-0

GLASSBORO, NJ -- McKenzie Melvin and Liz McCaffery each had five hits total in the doubleheader sweep as #3 Rowan took down NJCU in New Jersey Athletic Conference action, 10-0, and 8-0, Saturday afternoon.

The duo also had two doubles apiece as the Profs remain unbeaten on the season (28-0, 6-0 NJAC) and currently own the nation's longest winning streak in all NCAA divisions.

Game 1
McCaffery was 3-for-4 with a triple and a pair of doubles while Melvin, Abigail Pawlowski, Breanna Bryant, and Aly Reim all had two hits each as the game ended after the fifth.

Rowan plated two runs in the first, getting RBI from Pawlowski and Reim. Melvin made it 3-0 in the second as she beat out a grounder to short to score McCaffery.

The Profs scored seven times in the fourth on just four hits, three walks, and a Gothic Knight error. McCaffery doubled twice in the inning, once to lead off the frame and later with a two-run two-bagger as part of the seven spot.

Starter Rylee Lutz (11-0) gave up one hit over four innings, kicking in three K's and a walk. Madison Cooley fanned two as she wrapped up the fifth.

Game 2
Melvin's two-run double in the fifth helped Rowan to an 8-0 advantage and walk off the doubleheader sweep.

Zara MacNair tied a career-high with three hits and three runs scored while Melvin was 3-for-4 with a run and two RBI.

Emily McCutcheon (14-0) struck out three with no walks while allowing just one hit in five innings of work.

Melvin scored in the first off a double from Payton MacNair, who then came home on an RBI single from Bryant.

With the lead at 4-0 in the fourth, Pawlowski's two-out RBI single added to the lead.

Three singles to start the fifth loaded the bases for McCaffery, who would single in Reim. Melvin followed with a double to bring in Zara MacNair and pinch runner Mikayla Dansky to kick in the run rule for the victory.

Next up for the squad is a matchup at Stockton on Tuesday for two in NJAC action starting at 2:30 p.m.
