#2 Softball Posts Wins Over Ramapo in NJAC Doubleheader Sweep, 5-2, and, 6-1

GLASSBORO, NJ -- #2 Rowan ran off a pair of wins over Ramapo on Thursday in a New Jersey Athletic Conference contest, taking the first, 5-2, and, the second, 6-1.

Liz McCaffery was 5-for-8 with three runs, three stolen bases and a pair of triples in the two victories as the Profs improve to 33-1 and 11-1 in NJAC play.

Game one
McCaffery and Aly Reim were both 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored as Rowan erased a 2-1 deficit with four runs in the fourth inning.

Rylee Lutz went all seven innings to raise her record to 14-0. The senior, who allowed two runs on six hits with five walks and three strikeouts, fought off early tests from Ramapo (23-6, 7-5 NJAC) in the first two innings.

With the bases loaded in the top of the first, Lutz was able to limit the visitors to just one run. She found herself in the same situation in the second, but again, yielded just the one run to help keep things close.

McCaffery tripled in the Profs' first at-bat, then would score on an RBI single from McKenzie Melvin to tie it at 1-1.

Ramapo crossed a run on a bases loaded walk in the second to retake the lead.

The Profs got rolling in the fourth thanks to a lead-off single from Breanna Bryant. Reim followed with a double to left to plate Bryant, and then Reim scored off a double from Kate Evick to put Rowan back on top, 3-2. McCaffery's RBI single capped the four spot to give the home team a three-run advantage.

Abigail Pawlowski helped end the sixth as she threw out a Ramapo runner at the plate on a fly ball to left for the double play.

Game two
Rowan did not waste any time getting on the scoreboard as the Profs plated four runs on four hits, two walks, and a Ramapo error in the first inning. Bryant and Holly Markus had RBI singles in the frame.

McCaffery, who was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and added two stolen bases, tripled and scored on Melvin's sac fly in the second to make it a 5-0 lead.

Starter Emily McCutcheon (16-1) scattered six hits, allowing the one run, and added two K's and a walk. It was her first free pass in a span of over 42 innings in 10 appearances with the last one coming on March 19th vs. Springfield.

The team travels to Rutgers-Newark tomorrow for a pair beginning at 3:00 p.m.
