NEWARK, NJ -- #2 Rowan pounded out a total of 30 hits in taking a pair of games at Rutgers-Newark on Friday. The Profs took the first, 13-0, and the second, 16-0, to raise its record to 35-1 and 13-1 in NJAC play.
Senior
McKenzie Melvin collected career hit #200 in her first at-bat of game one, joining
Liz McCaffery this season in the exclusive club. The duo are the 11th and 12th players respectively to reach the 200 hit plateau in program history.
Game one
Melvin's RBI single and later a bases-loaded clearing double off the bat of
Kate Evick helped put four runs across in the first inning.
Evick finished with a career-high five RBI's while going 2-for-2. Melvin (2-for-3, 2 RBI),
Abigail Pawlowski (1-for-1, 2 BB), and
Breanna Bryant (1-for-1) all scored three times apiece.
The Profs added four runs in the second and five in the third as the game was ended after the fifth.
Rylee Lutz (15-0) and
Madison Cooley combined on a two-hitter.
Game two
Nine different players drove in a run as Rowan broke it open in the fourth and fifth innings to help secure the sweep.
Leading 1-0 in the second,
Holly Markus connected on her first career home run, a two-run shot to add to the lead.
Rowan then added six runs on six hits and two walks in the fourth and would tack on seven in the fifth.
Lutz,
BethAnne Doderer, and
Makayla Veneziale limited the Scarlet Raiders to just one hit.
Next up for the squad is a home date with Rutgers-Camden on Tuesday on Senior Day. Game one gets underway at 2:30 p.m. here in Glassboro.
