Burke Scores Four and #20 Women's Lacrosse Wins at Catholic, 11-8, to Improve to 12-1

WASHINGTON, DC - Calista Burke scored four goals, including two in the final quarter, as #20 Rowan defeated Catholic, 11-8, in the Profs' first game as a ranked team in the IWLCA Top 25 to improve to 12-1 on the season.

Fiona Lockhart scored three goals and Molly Green added two, with Alexis Lowry and Elaina Corson each adding a goal and an assist.

Rowan goalie Mel Rodgers made 13 saves on the day as Catholic outshot Rowan, 31-16.

Catholic (6-8) scored the game's first goal but Rowan answered with three straight, including two from Burke, to take a 3-1 lead after one quarter.

A pair of goals by the Cardinals tied the game at 3-3, but again, Rowan answered with three straight tallies from Corson, Green and Lockhart to head into halftime with a 6-3 lead.

Green opened the second half with another goal, off a pass from Lowry, as Rowan extended its lead to 7-3. Catholic notched two straight to close to 7-5, but Lockhart added her third of the game and the home team would score one more to pull within 8-6 after three quarters.

Lowry started the scoring in the fourth and Burke added a man-up goal with nine minutes to play, giving Rowan a 10-6 lead. Although Catholic scored a minute later, Burke again found the back of the net, with the pass from Lockhart, to give Rowan a four-goal edge, 11-7.

Rowan returns to NJAC play on Saturday when it travels to Kean for a 3:30 p.m. game.
