#20 Baseball Gives Up Early Lead in Falling to Rutgers-Camden, 20-12, at Home

Profs hit three home runs as teams combined for 35 hits

GLASSBORO, NJ - An eight-run second inning paved the way for Rutgers-Camden to post a 20-12 win over #20 Rowan in an NJAC baseball game that was postponed from last week. The teams combined for 35 hits in the game with Rowan (20-10; 5-5 NJAC) committing an uncharacteristic seven errors.

Tyler Cannon was 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs, with Jason Morgan going 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs. Damon Suriani posted a season-high three RBI, as all three players hit home runs.

Rutgers-Camden (18-8; 4-4)  took a 2-0 lead in the first but Morgan hit his fourth home run of the year in the bottom of the inning, a three-run shot to give the Profs a 3-2 lead. The advantage was short-lived as Rutgers-Camden followed with the eight runs on five hits and two Rowan errors to take a 10-3 lead.

Rowan closed to 11-6 in the fourth when Cannon connected on his first homer of the year and then he drew a bases-loaded walk in the fifth to pull the Profs within 13-7.

The Scarlet Raptors were up 17-7 in the eighth and Suriani connected on a two-run homer, his second of the year. Rutgers-Camden got to 20 runs with three in the ninth while the Profs scored five runs in the final two innings to provide the final score.

The Profs have a busy week ahead of them, hosting Arcadia on Tuesday in a non-conference game, and returning to league play hosting TCNJ on Thursday. Rowan will visit TCNJ on Friday and then host William Paterson on Saturday in a doubleheader beginning at 11:30 a.m. It will be Senior Day as well as a reunion of the 2004 and 2005 Profs' teams that reached the College World Series.
