#4 Softball Downs Marymount and North Carolina Wesleyan to Cap Grand Slam Classic Action

RALEIGH, NC -- #4 Rowan ended its stay at the Grand Slam Triangle Classic with two wins on Saturday taking down Marymount, 7-2, and North Carolina Wesleyan, 9-0, to help the Profs improve to 8-0 on the season.

Game one
Starter Emily McCutcheon tossed six scoreless innings, allowing just two hits with two K's and a walk. Offensively, Payton MacNair was 3-for-3 with a double, RBI, a run scored and a pair of stolen bases while Abigail Pawlowski walked twice and scored.

McKenzie Melvin's RBI double in the first, followed by MacNair's single to plate Melvin staked the Profs to a quick 2-0 advantage.

RBI singles from MacNair and Liz McCaffery plus a sac fly RBI from Cami Morgan was part of a five-run fifth.

After McCutcheon worked out of a spot with runners at second and third in the second inning, the junior retired the side in each of the next four innings to keep the Marymount bats quiet.

Game two
Melvin and Pawlowski added solo home runs as the Profs pounded out 15 hits as the game ended after the fifth due to the run rule.

Pawlowski tied a career high with three RBI's with Melvin and Kate Evick each adding two. Seven players had two or more hits while Pawlowski, Melvin, and MacNair all scored twice.

Starter Rylee Lutz fanned seven on just three hits and two walks to earn the victory (4-0).

Melvin cranked her 14th career dinger, a solo shot, as part of a three-spot in the first.

Now up 4-0 in the third, Pawlowski hit her first career homer and Holly Markus knocked in pinch runner Mikayla Dansky to add to the lead. Pawlowski doubled in Melvin and Evick later sliced a ball down the right field line to plate two more in the fourth.

The Profs will head to Florida next week for its Spring Break, playing in the Spring Games. Action gets underway on Friday with games against Juniata and Hope.
