#4 Softball Kicks Off Spring Break Trip with Victories over Juniata and Hope

CLERMONT, FL -- #4 Rowan opened its Spring Break trip with two shutouts on Friday, blanking Juniata, 6-0, and toppling Hope, 2-0 in The Spring Games.

Game one
Aly Reim drove in a career-best three RBI's and starter Emily McCutcheon spun a complete-game shutout as the Profs used a five-run third inning to get ahead for good.

Abigail Pawlowski walked twice and scored twice while McKenzie Melvin added an RBI double.

Reim plated Pawlowski in the top of the second on a sac fly to put Rowan up, 1-0. McCutcheon wiggled out of a one-out, runners on second and third spot in the bottom half with a pair of popups.

Melvin doubled in Liz McCaffery to start the scoring in the third. Now with the bases full, Kate Evick worked a walk to score Melvin from third. Reim was next up where she singled in Breanna Bryant and Pawlowski for a 5-0 edge. Holly Markus capped the scoring with a sac fly.

McCutcheon limited the Eagles to three hits with two strikeouts and no walks to move to 5-0.

Game two
Key RBI hits from Zara MacNair and Bryant paced the offense as starter Rylee Lutz fanned five on just five hits.

Rowan got on the board as MacNair delivered a two-out RBI single in the second to score Reim. From there, Lutz (5-0) did not allow a baserunner until the sixth where a pair of hits put runners on first and second with just one out. She induced a fly out and a pop up to squash the threat.

With Pawlowski aboard in the bottom of the sixth, Bryant sent a ball to the gap in left center to double home Pawlowski to add some insurance for Lutz's outing.

Tomorrow, the team takes on Lake Forest and Coe with the first contest starting at 10 a.m.
