Pawlowski Keys #4 Softball to Two Wins On Saturday at The Spring Games

WINTER HAVEN, FL -- #4 Rowan continued its winning ways on Saturday with two more victories, grinding through a 1-0 win against Lake Forest followed by a 6-1 decision over Coe in action at The Spring Games.

Abigail Pawlowski scored the lone run on a wild pitch in the 1-0 victory, and later added a two-run triple in the second game help pace the Profs in the two wins.

Game one
Saturday's first matchup featured a pitcher's duel between starter Emily McCutcheon and the Foresters' Hannah Smith. McCutcheon struck out seven while allowing just four hits, working out of jams in the third and in the seventh. Smith was the hard luck loser, allowing no hits with four K's, one walk and one wild pitch.

Pawlowski was the recipient of that walk to lead off the second. After a sacrifice to second and later advancing to third on a groundout, Smith uncorked a wild pitch that allowed Pawlowski to race home.

The Foresters looked to answer in the very next inning, getting runners at second and third, but McCutcheon (6-0) ended the frame with a strikeout.

Now in the bottom of the seventh, Lake Forest put a runner on with a lead-off single followed by a steal to put the tying run in scoring position. The junior pitcher got all three outs via the strikeout in the frame to cement the 1-0 score.

Game two
The Profs busted out the bats in the very first inning, plating four runs highlighted by Pawlowski's two-run triple. Breanna Bryant's ensuing double scored Pawlowski, and the throw into second base went into right field, allowing Bryant to race home for the 4-0 advantage.

Liz McCaffery's RBI groundout in the second made it a five-run lead before the Kohawks plated a run in the third.

McCaffery, who tripled with one out in the fifth, scored on a perfectly timed safety squeeze bunt from McKenzie Melvin to make it 6-1.

The early lead was plenty for starter Rylee Lutz who struck out six on three hits and a run and two walks to go to 6-0 this season. Makayla Veneziale spun a scoreless seventh.

Rowan (12-0) gets back at it tomorrow with games against Wooster (9 a.m.) and SUNY-Fredonia (11:15 a.m.) down in Central Florida.
