CLERMONT, FL -- #4 Rowan posted wins over Wooster (10-0) and SUNY-Fredonia (4-2) on Sunday at the Spring Games to continue its hot start.
Payton MacNair and
Liz McCaffery each totaled five hits in the two victories on the day.
Game one
McCaffery,
Aly Reim, and
Holly Markus each had two hits and two RBI's as the Profs totaled 14 hits as the game was ended after the fifth. MacNair was a perfect 3-for-3 with a run scored
Starter
Emily McCutcheon spun two scoreless innings with rookie
BethAnne Doderer earning the win in relief. Doderer fanned three batters with two hits and a walk over the final three frames to earn her first collegiate victory.
Back-to-back RBI doubles from Reim and Markus along with an RBI single from McCaffery in the second made it a 3-0 score.
In the third, Rowan totaled six hits and took advantage of three Scot errors to plate six in the frame. Reim and Markus struck again with RBI hits and McCaffery tripled in pinch runner
Mikayla Dansky to highlight the six spot.
Zara MacNair singled in
Kate Evick in the fourth to hit double digits for the Profs.
Game two
McCaffery blasted a two-run homer and starter
Makayla Veneziale struck out a career-high 12 batters in her first Rowan start to highlight the day's second contest.
Veneziale carried a perfect game into the seventh before a lead-off infield single gave the Blue Devils its first hit.
MacNair's RBI groundout in the first scored McCaffery for a 1-0 edge.
After a pinch-hit RBI single from
Cami Morgan in the fifth, McCaffery went deep to left for her first home run on the season and gave the Profs a four-run lead.
Veneziale, a transfer, struck out the side in both the second and sixth innings. She yielded the two hits in the seventh before being relieved by freshman
Madison Cooley.
The team (14-0) returns to action on Tuesday, March 18th facing off with #19 Wisconsin-Stevens Point and Wisconsin-Stout.
