Women's Lacrosse Edged by Scranton, 12-11, in OT to End Unbeaten Streak at Eight

Profs are 8-1 and have achieved the best start in school history

SCRANTON, PA - Scranton's Jillian Lopez scored the winning goal in overtime to hand Rowan women's lacrosse its first loss of the year, 12-11, ending the Profs' eight-game winning streak, which marked the best start in school history.

The game was close throughout, with seven ties, and Rowan's biggest lead being  two goals on multiple occasions,

Molly Green broke a 10-10 with an unassisted goal with 7:25 to play, but Scranton (4-5) tied it again at 2:39 on a score from Jill Reich.

Although Rowan (8-1) controlled the draw at the start of the extra six-minute period, the Royals got the gamewinner from Lopez with 3:52 remaining, which was the home team's first lead of the contest.

Elaina Corson had four goals for the Profs with Calista Burke scoring three times and Green tallying two goals.

Burke's goal at 6:41 of the first quarter gave Rowan a 5-3 lead. She scored another in the second quarter, off a pass from Trish Gillen, to put the Profs up by 6-4.

In the second, Scranton tied it at 6-6 before Corson netted one with 1:17 remaining to give Rowan a 7-6 lead. Corson opened the scoring in the third quarter and the Profs were up, 8-6. Scranton tied it with a pair of goals a minute apart, and Green took a pass to put Rowan ahead, 9-8.

The Royals tallied one just 40 seconds later to tie it at 9-9 before Corson beat the clock, scoring at :05 to give the Profs a 10-9 edge heading into the final quarter of regulation.

Rowan held a 39-30 advantage in shots with goalie Mel Rodgers making 11 saves. 

Rowan, which received votes in this week's IWLCA Division III Coaches Poll, will be off for more than a week, returning to action on Friday, April 4 to host Ramapo in the NJAC opener.
