HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA - #23 Rowan (1-1) opened the 2025 season by splitting a doubleheader with Hampden-Sydney (3-5), winning the first, 8-3, and falling in the second, 12-7. The teams will play a single game on Sunday beginning at noon.
GAME 1
Brayden Davis went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI and
Phil Sedalis hit the Profs' first home run of the year as Rowan opened the year with an 8-3 win.
Mike Shannon (1-0) earned the victory, going 6.0 innings with six strikeouts.
Nick Struble drove in Rowan's first run of the year when he tripled to score Davis in the second. The Profs got three in the fourth starting with an RBI single from
Jason Morgan.
Hampden-Sydney got on the board in the fourth and then the Profs countered with three in the fifth, including Sedalis' solo homer and an RBI single by Davis.
Kevin Cole drove in Morgan with a sacrifice fly in the seventh to give Rowan an 8-1 lead.
Morgan was 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI and
Tyler Cannon was 2-for-5 for the Profs.
Austin Kreyenhagen made his Rowan debut and struck out four in 3.0 innings.
GAME 2
The Profs held an early lead but Hampden-Sydney exploded for seven runs in the seventh inning to pick up a 12-7 win. Davis, Sabato and Sedalis had two hits apiece for the Profs.
Rowan scored first in the second as
Marco Mannino doubled in Davis. The home team went ahead, 2-1, in the third but the Profs answered with three in the fourth, with an RBI single from Sedalis and a two-run double by
Eric Sabato, to take the 4-2 lead.
The Tigers got one back in the sixth and in the top of the seventh, Morgan doubled in Sabato to give the Profs a 5-3 lead. From there, HS-C scored seven runs on five hits and one error to own a 10-5 advantage.
HS-C scored two more in the eighth to go up, 12-5, but Davis connected on a two-run shot for his first homer as a Prof to provide the final margin.
Steven Maiers made his Rowan debut on the mound and went 5.0 innings and recorded four strikeouts. From there, the Profs used five more pitchers with
Jaxon Casdia (0-1) being saddled with the loss.
