WAYNE, NJ – Five players finished in double-figure scoring as Rowan pulled away from William Paterson in the second half helping the Profs to a 92-64 NJAC road victory on Saturday.
Sabrina Araujo led the offense with 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting plus a 4-for-6 effort from behind the arc.
Kate Herlihy added 16 and
Shayla Johnson kicked in 14.
Haley Selmer and
Abigail Jazmin each netted 12 as Rowan took advantage of 22 Pioneer turnovers to create 33 points. For Araujo and Johnson, the point totals were a career high for both.
William Paterson led by as much as seven (15-8) midway through the first quarter before the visitors found some traction in the second. Araujo connected on back-to-back three pointers followed by two buckets in a row from Jasmin to give Rowan a seven-point edge with 4:53 before the half. The Pioneers cut it to a 39-37 Prof lead at the break.
The Profs dominated the third quarter, outscoring the Pioneers, 31-9, going 11-of-20 from the floor to take a 70-46 lead into the final frame.
Renee Wells led William Paterson with 16 points with teammates Victoria Palladino and Brianna Smith each finishing with 11. After going 12-of-21 as a team in the first half, the Pioneers were just 3-of-20 in that game-changing third quarter.
Johnson was the top rebounder with eight boards.
Reagan Russo dished out a career-best seven assists as well.
Rowan welcomes Kean to Esbjornson Gymnasium on Wednesday in an NJAC tilt starting a 5:30 p.m. for Girls and Women in Sports Day.
