Brycen Williams scored a career-high 36 points, including the winning free throws with :06 remaining, to give Rowan an 80-79 win over William Paterson in NJAC men's basketball action today. The Profs improve to 11-9 overall and 8-5 in the conference.
Williams shot 10-for-15 from the field and went 10-for-11 from the foul line, while he made 6-of-10 three-pointers for his career game.
Taz Cantey had 13 points and
Danny Fleming scored 11 for Rowan.
After William Paterson (5-15; 1-12) took a 73-67 lead on a three-pointer by Josiah Carey with 3:30 to play, Rowan fought back as Williams was fouled on a three-point attempt and converted the ensuing three free throws to pull the Profs within, 73-70. WP increased its lead to 75-70, and
Khalif Meares converted a three-point play to cut the score to 75-73 with 1:59 to play.
The Pioneers scored again at 1:39 but Meares scored back-to-back buckets to tie the game, 77-77, wth 52 seconds remaining. One free throw apiece from Andre Wells at :31 and at :19 gave WPU the two-point lead before Williams was fouled with :06 and made the winning free throws.
The game was close throughout, with WPU holding a 41-38 lead at halftime.
Rowan's biggest lead in the game was three points, while the Pioneers held a seven-point lead with 9:04 to go in the second half.
The Profs return home on Wednesday to host Kean at 7:30 p.m.
