GLASSBORO, NJ -
Nunes Bukula IV rushed for 104 yards and two touchdowns and Rowan racked up 611 yards of total offense as the Profs rolled to a 62-7 win over Vermont State Castleton in NJAC football action, which was the first-ever meeting of the schools. Rowan also celebrated Senior Day for the final home game of the regular season.
It was the most points scored by Rowan since a 72-14 win over Western Connecticut State on October 10, 2009.
Michael Zarfati had two touchdown catches and 84 total yards, with
Shane Martin making four catches for 83 yards. QB
Nate Maiers was 5-for-5 and passed for 121 yards and two touchdowns with
Jay Mazuera tossing the first touchdown pass of his career.
Rowan (6-2-1; 4-2 NJAC) scored touchdowns on its first seven drives, including the first play of the game when Bukula ran for 69 yards. The Profs added to the total on the next drive, on a halfback option as
Joseph Riina passed to
Jamir Rowe for a 17-yard touchdown.
At 8:45, Maiers tossed a 25-yard touchdown to Zarfati to give Rowan a 21-0 lead. It increased to 28-0 after a 44-yard run by
Mordecai Ford. Rowan tacked on another with 1:05 remaining in the first quarter as
Tyshawn Bookman ran for a 24-yard touchdown, although the extra point was blocked by Castleton.
Rowan started the second quarter off with a 35-yard connection from Maiers to Zarfati for a 41-0 lead.
The Profs' next touchdown came on a defensive play, as
Jaeden Everett recorded an interception and a "pick six" with a 50-yard return.
Bukula scored his second of the game with 3:51 remaining in the half on a 15-yard run to give Rowan a 55-0 halftime lead.
Backup quarterback Mazuera got things going in the third quarter as he threw a 62-yard completion to Ford.
Castleton (2-7; 0-6) ended the shutout with 3:42 left in the third quarter when Jacob Calabro caught a 65-yard pass from Jhai Vellon.

Rowan's total of nine touchdowns was just shy of the school record of 10, which happened three times, with the most recent being against Western Connecticut State in 2009. The most points ever scored by Rowan was 72 in that same game.
Rowan will close out the regular season on Saturday, November 15 at Kean with kickoff at 1 p.m.
