#11 Women's Soccer Falls in NJAC Championship Game at Montclair State, 4-3, in Penalty Kicks

2025 NJAC Championship

MONTCLAIR, NJ --  #11 Women's Soccer fell to Montclair State in penalty kicks, 4-3, in the 2025 New Jersey Athletic Conference Championship Friday evening.

Siena Sowers scored for the Profs with Montclair State's Samira Lukovic adding a goal as both tallies came in the second half, marking the game an official 1-1 tie.

After a scoreless first half where Rowan held the home team without shot, Sowers came through with her first career goal in the 67th minute, getting a slight redirection off a defender from her blast from 25 yards out. The deflection got past Red Hawk Solange Bell to put the Profs up, 1-0.

Montclair was able to knot it up with less than four minutes in regulation as Lukovic put in her own rebound under the hands of Rowan keeper Leah Edinger.

Rowan would put together a late offensive push in the final seconds of the first overtime before Edinger made a key stop in the final moments of the second extra time, but both teams remained knotted at 1-1.

In the shootout, the Profs fell behind 2-0 before penalty goals from Lianna SanFelice, Sara Wiedeman, and Olivia Giordano helped to keep pace. A final attempt however drew the crossbar, giving the Red Hawks its fifth NJAC Championship.

Edinger finished with three saves while Bell tallied two for Montclair State.

NOTES: Both of Rowan's playoff games in this year's postseason went to penalty kicks… This is the first NJAC Championship win via penalty kicks since 2021… Rowan was making its ninth appearance in the conference title game and also seeking its fifth championship.

The Profs will await a possible at large berth to the NCAA Division III Tournament. Selections will be announced on NCAA.com this Monday, November 10th.
