NEWPORT NEWS, VA -- #11 Rowan advanced in penalty kicks, 4-3, over #16 Misericordia in a Division III Women's Soccer Tournament First Round game Saturday night at Christopher Newport.

The Profs now square off with Penn-State Harrisburg tomorrow in a second round matchup starting at 6 p.m. The Lions took out the host and 14th-ranked Captains, 2-1, earlier on the day.

The game officially ended in 1-1 tie with both goals coming in the latter stages of the second half.

Olivia Giordano gave the Profs the lead in the 64th minute, putting in her team-leading 14th goal after her second effort off an initial shot.

The Cougars countered in the 76th minute as Alyssa Steenback's header on a corner kick hit off the left post and into the net past keeper Leah Edinger to tie things up a goal each.

In the first 10 minutes of overtime, the teams produced a corner kick each, while in the second, the Profs had three shots on goal resulting in three saves for Misericordia keeper Lauren Mondor.

Shooting second in the penalty kick round, Lianna SanFelice, Sara Wiedemann, and Olivia Giordano all scored on the team's first three attempts while Edinger made a save and had another chance sail over the cage to put the Profs up, 3-1. Now 3-3 in the fifth round of the shootout, Elaina Corson closed it out as she converted to send the Profs to the second round for the first time since 2022.

NOTES: Rowan has now played three-straight penalty kick contests throughout this postseason, which includes the two NJAC playoff games as well… Edinger finished with six saves while Mondor had five.
