EWING, NJ --
Nunes Bukula IV totaled 129 yards and three touchdowns to help Rowan to a 44-30 NJAC victory at The College of New Jersey on Saturday.
The Prof defense limited the Lions to 217 total yards in the contest, while offense notched its second game this season with 500 yards or more.
Rookie
Xavier McBride led all tacklers with 10 stops. McBride,
Giaini Derameaux, and
Akil Moody all added sacks respectively. Derameaux also recovered a fumble that led to a Rowan score in the second quarter.
Bukula IV ran for 64 yards on 18 carries and two TD's while grabbing six receptions for 65 yards and another trip to the end zone.
Tyshawn Bookman (80 yards) and
Mordecai Ford (62 yards) helped the ground game rack up 199 rushing yards.
Rowan (5-2-1, 3-2 NJAC) built a 24-7 lead at halftime thanks to two TD's on the ground from Bukula IV, a 25-yard field goal from
Greg Casimir, and a 20-yard reception off a hook and lateral on the last play of the first half from
Luke Hoke.
After the Lions' Albert D'Alessandro III ran back the second-half kickoff for a touchdown, the Profs used a nine-play, 58 yard drive to answer back, getting a
Joseph Riina three-yard TD pass from quarterback
Nate Maiers. Rowan added to the lead as Bukula IV hauled in a 23-yard pass from
Matt Welsey to cap a long 11-play, 90 yard trek for a 38-14 score.
TCNJ used a late third-quarter interception to score on the third play of the fourth on Joe Visaggio's 24-yard scoring run and later after a three and out, the Lions made it an eight-point game. Kyle Vellis hooked up with Alex Dille on a fourth and 11 from the Rowan 28. Both scores had two successful two-point tries to cut it to 38-30 with 7:50 remaining in the game.
Maiers was able to connect with
Michael Zarfati on a key third and 6 near midfield on a 35-yard reception down to the TCNJ nine. Bookman found his way into the end zone just two plays later from five yards out with 1:53 on the clock to help restore a two-score lead.
Maiers was 21-of-30 for 238 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. Welsey threw for 67 yards on a perfect 3-for-3 passing effort. Zarfati led all pass catchers with 112 yards on a season-best seven receptions.
Visaggio totaled 64 yards on 13 carries while Dille had four catches for 95 yards for The College of New Jersey (6-2, 3-2 NJAC). The QB duo of Vellis and Dean Licari was just 6-of-13 for 114 yards.
The Profs will host NJAC newcomer Vermont State-Castleton on Senior Day/Military Appreciation Day on Saturday, November 8th in a 1 p.m. kickoff.
