Aurelia McManis and
Gracie Merrick scored the tying goals in the final three minutes of regulation, and #14 Rowan outlasted #21 TCNJ in double overtime and a shootout to score a 4-3 victory in NJAC field hockey today. Rowan (11-3; 3-0) extends its winning streak to seven in a row.
Rowan outscored the Lions in the shootout, 2-1, as
Sydney Kowalczyk and
Mia Foti connected on their attempts, and Profs' goalie
Mariah Juiliano came up strong.
TCNJ (8-4; 2-1) took a 3-1 lead with less than eight minutes to play, but the Profs answered back quickly. McManis tallied her first goal of the season at 56:58, to pull Rowan within, 3-2, and
Gracie Merrick scored the tying goal in the final minute, at 59:03.
The teams played through two scoreless overtime periods and then headed the shootout with Kowalczyk and Foti sealing the win on the Profs' second and third shots.
TCNJ staked the early lead with a first-quarter goal but
Sophia Weisler got the Profs on the board in the second quarter, as she was assisted by Kowalczyk. The Lions took a 2-1 lead into halftime on Kara Wilson's goal at 26:46.
Juiliano made seven saves while Rowan outshot TCNJ, 20-13, in the game.
The Profs will open up Rowan's Homecoming weekend on Friday evening with a 6 p.m. matchup against Kean.
