#22 Elizabethtown Trips Up Women's Basketball, 69-58

GLASSBORO, NJ -- #22 Elizabethtown defeated Rowan, 69-58, Thursday evening in a non-conference tilt at Esbjornson Gymnasium.

Rowan's top scorer was Kate Herlihy who finished with 11 points with Sabrina Araujo netting nine respectively.

The Profs (7-4) offense had trouble finding rhythm in the first quarter, shooting just 28% (4-for-15) to trail 23-10 after the first 10 minutes. Rowan responded defensively in the second, limiting the Blue Jays to just 10 points in the frame. Araujo connected on back-to-back three-pointers to cut the deficit to nine (25-16) early in the quarter. Later, a bucket from the top of the key from Shayla Johnson pulled Rowan within 27-20 at the 5:49 mark, but the home Profs still trailed 33-23 at halftime.

Elizabethtown's Summer McNulty scored eight of her 10 points in the third and the team knocked down three three-pointers as well. Araujo would hit her third triple of the game with 4:19 left to get the Profs to 42-32 before the Blue Jays went on a 13-4 to close the stanza and take a 19-point lead entering the fourth.

Rowan gave it one last push in the final quarter, outscoring the visitors, 22-14, including 15-4 spurt over the final six-plus minutes, but could not whittle the deficit down to single digits.

Jess King led all scorers with 18 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the floor for Elizabethtown (10-1)

For the Profs, Haley Selmer (four points) collected a career-best seven rebounds while Johnson added six points, three boards, three assists, and a block.

The team is back in action on Saturday at home when DeSales visits in a 2 p.m. tip.
