Women's Soccer Shuts Out Rutgers-Newark, 3-0, in NJAC Opener

GLASSBORO, NJ -- Rowan blanked visiting Rutgers-Newark, 3-0, Saturday afternoon in the New Jersey Athletic Conference opener for both teams.

Game Highlights

The Profs got early first-half tallies from Lianna SanFelice and Sara Wiedeman and later a penalty kick goal in the second from Simone Pacetti. Goalie Calista Burke needed just one save on three shots to earn her third shutout of the season.

SanFelice made it 1-0 in the sixth minute as she buried a free kick attempt just outside the box after a Scarlet Raider foul. It was her first goal on the year.

Wiedeman netted her fourth score of the season minutes later off an assist from Olivia Falicki as she found a shooting lane from 30 yards out and fired one just off the fingertips of Rutgers-Newark goalie Angela Amaya for a 2-0 lead.

Rowan registered 11 of its 19 shots in the first 45 minutes and would hold a two-goal advantage at halftime.

In the 73rd minute, Pacetti was called upon to take a penalty kick. Her shot went low and to the left past Amaya for the team's Division III-leading sixth team PK of the season.

Amaya finished with 10 saves for Rutgers-Newark.

Rowan continues conference play on Wednesday as New Jersey City heads to Glassboro for a NJAC showdown starting at 6 p.m.
