GLASSBORO, NJ -- A pair of second-quarter goals drove #17 Shenandoah to defeat #25 Rowan, 4-2, in field hockey action Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at Richard Wackar Stadium.
Allie Palumbo started scoring for the Profs in the first quarter in the 11th minute with her team-leading sixth goal. Â
Shenandoah scored two goals in the second with the first coming at 17:54 from Mairead McKibbin with an assist by Farren Winter. Five minutes later, Lily Kyvelos took the lead for visitors at 22:21 where the Hornets held a 2-1 edge at the break.Â
The Hornets started the third quarter with a goal by Cassidy Morrison at 31:01 extending their lead to 3-1. Â
Rowan only took one shot on goal in the third quarter, but made it count, as
Gracie Merrick cut the deficit to one at 38:47 off an assist from
Alexa Ronning for a 3-2 game.Â
The Profs had a total of six shots in the final stanza but couldn't find the back of the cage. At 47:49, McKibbin scored her second goal of the game to restore the Hornets' two-goal advantage.
Mariah Juiliano made four saves in goal for Rowan with teammate
Delfina Vanelli adding a save in relief. SU's Taylor Swann recorded five stops.
The Profs next game will be on Wednesday, October 2nd at home against Messiah beginning at 6 p.m.
