Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey's Late Rally Falls Short as Profs are Edged by #23 Messiah, 2-1

GLASSBORO, NJ - Rowan's Lily Bataloni scored in the fourth quarter but the Profs couldn't overcome the deficit, falling to #23 Messiah, 2-1, in non-conference field hockey action at Coach Wackar Stadium. The loss drops Rowan to 4-6 on the year.

After a scoreless first quarter, Messiah (6-4) took a 1-0 lead in the second on an unassisted goal by Leah Bryner. Neither team could find the back of the cage in the third quarter but Messiah got the eventual gamewinner just minutes into the fourth, as Aubrey Clark scored on a scramble in front.

Just two minutes later, at 50:25, Bataloni scored her third goal of the year as she followed in a rebound off the pads of Messiah goalie Eva Hancock from two yards out. The Profs applied the pressure in the final five minutes, taking three corners, but couldn't score the tying goal.

Mariah Juiliano made five saves for Rowan as the teams were even in shots on goal, 7-7.

This ends Rowan's five-game homestand as it goes on the road  on Saturday to face its seventh ranked opponent of the year, traveling to #14 Lynchburg.
