HOBOKEN, NJ - Rowan fought back from two deficits in the fourth quarter, and got a goal by
Alexa Ronning as the clock expired in regulation, but #25 Stevens was able to pull out a 5-4 overtime win in field hockey action this afternoon. The loss ruined a two-goal, one assist effort by the Profs'
Allie Palumbo.
With Rowan (1-3) trailing 3-2 in the fourth quarter,
Olivia Griffin started the Profs' comeback, tying the game, 3-3, with the first goal of her career at 48:06. Stevens went back on top, 4-3, at 58:22, before Ronning took a pass from Palumbo as time expired in regulation to force the extra period, also with her first goal as a Prof.
Stevens (4-0) earned the win with one more goal, on a breakaway by Emily Smart at 63:43.
Palumbo opened the scoring with her first goal at Rowan, as the All-American (at Stockton) put one in the cage at 5:13. After Stevens tied the game in the second quarter, Palumbo scored her second just minutes later at 28:14, taking a pass from
Paige Gray.
Rowan held a slim 16-12 advantage in shots and goalie
Mariah Juiliano was called on to make four saves.
The Profs continue their season-opening stretch of road games by playing their fifth straight at Arcadia on Saturday. Rowan will play its long-awaited home opener on Wednesday, September 18 vs. Catholic.
