NORTHAMPTON, MA -- Rowan netted all three goals in the second half as the Profs started the 2024 season with a 3-1 victory at Smith on Sunday afternoon.
Goals from
Mackenzie Clement,
Olivia Giordano, and
Simone Pacetti gave Rowan, who
is receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Top 25 Poll, the season-opening win. Goalie
Calista Burke went all 90 minutes and registered one save in recording the victory. Smith keeper Skylar Smith made 10 saves.
The Profs outshot the Pioneers, 7-1, in the first half, but it was the home team holding 1-0 edge after a late first-half tally from Kyla Warner.
Rowan put together 13 shots in the second, keeping Smith busy in net. Clement made it 1-1 in the 55th minute as she converted on a penalty kick after a foul in the box.
Just over 10 minutes later, Giordano put the Profs ahead with her unassisted score. With just under nine minutes remaining, Pacetti added an insurance goal to seal the outcome.
The Profs will host Babson this Saturday in the home opener here in Glassboro beginning at 1 p.m.
