SALISBURY, MD -
Johnny Troiano recorded a hat trick as Rowan (1-1) picked up its first win of the year, defeating St. Mary's, 6-1, at Salisbury's Elmer Lord Memorial Tournament.
For Troiano, it was the second hat trick of his career.
Jason Barragan had two assists on the day on the Profs' first two goals as they took a 2-0 lead. After Troiano opened the scoring at 7:47,
Ryan Cleary netted one two minutes later.
St. Mary's (1-1) got on the board at 14:22 but Rowan would finish out the half with three more goals. Newcomer
Mo Bocher scored one, assisted by
Chris Spicer, and Troiano followed with two more, including a penalty kick at 33:07 as the Profs were up, 5-1, by halftime.
Freshman
Andy Santoro closed out the scoring with the first of his career in the 86th minute.
Rowan outshot St. Mary's, 18-6, and
Dylan Aportela made one save in 70 minutes. Freshman
Tyler Prokopenko relieved him for the final 20 minutes of the match.
The Profs will head to Franklin & Marshall next Friday and then travel to Johns Hopkins on Sunday.
