Game 1
The day's first game had two milestones hit as starting pitcher
Rylee Lutz threw her second career no hitter and teammate
Payton MacNair collected her 200th career hit as the Profs scored early and often in the five-inning affair.
Lutz struck out four and yielded four walks while MacNair was 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs. This is the third no hitter by the Prof pitching staff this year and second this season for Lutz. Her first came on March 22nd in a win at Haverford.
Emily McCutcheon then threw one less than a month later on April 16th at TCNJ.
MacNair's RBI double in the second made her the 10th Prof all-time to record 200 career hits.
In the first, MacNair got the scoring started with a two-run single down the line in left followed by a two-run double off the bat of
Kaitlyn Riggs for a 4-0 advantage. Rowan plated four more runs in the second, all with two outs led by RBI doubles from MacNair and
Cat Thomas and an RBI triple from
Liz McCaffery.
Lutz gave up two walks in the first, but settled in to allow just three more baserunners as the junior is now 13-6 on the season.
Thomas finished the game 2-for-2 with two RBI, two runs, and a walk.
Game 2
McCutcheon allowed just one run on five hits, but fanned six and did not allow a walk to improve her conference-leading record to 18-1.
McCaffery struck again for a triple as the junior tied a career high with four hits, while knocking in three runs and scoring three times.
McKenzie Melvin also had three hits with
Zara MacNair going 2-for-4 with three runs scored.
Leading 3-0 after the first, the Red Hawks answered with a run in the second on an infield single to cut into the lead. McCaffery's two-run triple followed by Thomas' RBI single padded the lead back up to 6-1. In the fourth, McCaffery scored from second on a deep fly out in center as she beat the throw home on a heads up play.
The Profs plated two runs in the fifth to use the eight-run rule for the walk off win and secure the top playoff seed.
After the second game, the team and coaching staff took time to honor the team's five seniors, MacNair, Thomas, Riggs,
Grace Shukaitis, and
Morgan Tripodi along with their families.
