#15 Softball Takes Two at Rutgers-Camden, 12-1 and 8-2

CAMDEN, NJ -- #15 Rowan won 12-1 and 8-2 at Rutgers Camden on Tuesday afternoon in a NJAC Doubleheader helping keep the Profs in first place in the conference.

On Saturday, the Profs will close out the regular season against Montclair State and with two wins can lock up the top playoff seed in the upcoming NJAC Tournament.

Game one
Rowan used a six-run fifth to add to its 6-1 lead. Payton MacNair, Liz McCaffery and Abigail Pawlowski each had two hits and knocked in two runs apiece while Zara MacNair was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.

RBIs from Cat Thomas (Single) and Payton MacNair (Sac Fly) in the first staked the visitors to a quick 2-0 edge. McCaffery scored off a single from MacNair in the third as part of four-run frame. The game was halted after the fifth due to the run rule.

Starter Rylee Lutz (12-6) allowed the one run on three hits with three walks and three strikeouts.

Game two
Emily McCutcheon, who raised her record to 18-1 on the year, fanned five while giving up two unearned runs on four hits as the Profs scored in every inning but the first.

Seven different players each drove in a run led by Breanna Bryant who was 2-for-2 with two runs, RBI, and a walk.

Grace Shukaitis made it 1-0 in the second when she singled home Kaitlyn Riggs with two outs. Bryant led off the third with an infield single and later come around to score on McCaffery's groundout. Thomas added another two-out RBI to make it 3-0.

Now 5-0 in the fifth, the Scarlet Raptors got on the board in the bottom half with two unearned runs to cut into the Rowan lead. The Profs got those two runs back in the sixth. Morgan Tripodi added a pinch hit RBI double in the seventh to account for the scoring.

Rowan will host Montclair State on Saturday on Senior Day. First pitch for the twinbill is slated for 1 p.m.
