GLASSBORO, NJ – Senior
Mike Shannon threw a complete-game shutout as #20 Rowan defeated TCNJ, 1-0, in a key NJAC baseball matchup, that evened the Profs' conference record to 6-6, while they improved to 19-9 overall.
Game Highlights
Shannon limited the Lions to just five hits, while he struck out eight and worked out of two bases-loaded jams in the seventh and nine innings. The righthander improved to 5-2 on the season with his second complete game of the year, and the third of his career.
Rowan got the only run it needed in the second inning when
Anthony Schooley led off with a double and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Chris Serrano. Schooley scored when
Kevin Stewart also laid down a sacrifice bunt for his second game-winning RBI in the past two games.
The game was a pitchers' duel between Shannon and Dan Merkel, and featured a number of top-notch fielding plays. TCNJ (18-11; 6-6) recorded a triple play in the third inning and the Profs registered an unusual double play in the sixth when
Pat Defeciani caught a foul ball and doubled the TCNJ runner off first base.
Stewart, who also doubled, and
Phil Sedalis were the only Profs with multiple hits, with two apiece.
Rowan, which swept the two-game series with TCNJ, heads to William Paterson for a doubleheader tomorrow.
