Maria Provides Game-Winning RBI to Give #20 Baseball a Split with William Paterson, 8-7

WAYNE, NJ – Dylan Maria had three hits, including the game-winning RBI, in the second game as #20 Rowan (20-10; 7-7) salvaged a split by winning the nightcap, 8-7, in an NJAC doubleheader with William Paterson. The Pioneers (7-22; 2-8)  captured the first game, 4-2.
 
Game 1
William Paterson took the early 2-0 lead before Rowan got on the oard in the third, with an RBI triple from Phil Sedalis to bring home Tyler Cannon.
 
The Pioneers added runs in the third and sixth to take the 4-1 ead, with the Profs only able to score one more in the eighth, when Anthony Schooley drove in one when he reached on a fielder's choice.
 
Thomas Sullivan (2-1) suffered the loss after 5.1 innings as he struck out four.
 
Karson Harcourt and Kevin Stewart each had two hits for Rowan.
 
Game 2
The Profs went out in front, 5-0, after two innings, thanks to an RBI single from Jason Morgan and a two-run single from Anthony Schooley in the first. Tyler Cannon added an RBI single and Defeciani hit a run-scoring double in the second.
 
Maria homered to center field in the fifth, for his team-high 12th of the year, to give the Profs a 6-0 lead.
 
William Paterson closed to 6-4 after seven innings and the Profs added another in the eighth when Chris Serrano laid down a sacrifice bunt to score Serrano.
 
The Pioneers scored three in the eighth to tie the game and 7-7, setting the stage for Maria's game-winning single in the ninth to score Cannon, who led off with a single.
 
Pat Defeciani also had three hits in the win with Cannon and Serrano adding two each, while Schooley drove in two runs.
 
Maria (2-0) also earned the win by pitching the eighth with Sean Colbert picking up his team-best fifth save of the year, as he posted two strikeouts in the ninth. Matt Choi was the starter and went six innings and struck out seven.
