McCutcheon Throws No-Hitter as #14 Softball Defeats TCNJ, 10-0 to Split Doubleheader

Marks the first no-hitter of the sophomore's career

EWING, NJ – Emily McCutcheon tossed the first no-hitter of her career as #14 Rowan shut out TCNJ, 10-0, in five innings to salvage a split in the NJAC doubleheader this afternoon. TCNJ won the first game, 3-2, on a walk-off double as the Profs are now 20-7 (10-2 NJAC) on the season.

McCutcheon (15-1) struck out five and walked only one batter as she shut down the Lions.

It was the second no-hitter thrown this year by a Prof as Rylee Lutz accomplished the feat on March 22 against Haverford.

Game one
A pitcher's duel between Rylee Lutz and TCNJ's Elizabeth Gosse limited offense for both squads.

TCNJ got on the board first off a Camryn Kitchen solo homerun in the 4th inning.

Rowan was unable to muster any offense until the 7th inning. Payton MacNair and Grace Shukaitis both singled before an error in left field off the bat of Abigail Pawlowski brought home both runners, making the score 2-1.

The Profs were unable to hold on however, as TCNJ's Julia Mayernik doubled down the left field line, scoring two runners and to walk off the game with a final score of 3-2.

Rowan's offense managed just three hits off of Gosse. Zara MacNair added the other hit for the Profs.

Lutz allowed five hits while striking out four batters over 6.2 innings pitched.

Game two
McCutcheon allowed just two baserunners via a walk and a hit by pitch en route to the win.

Zara MacNair added a season-best three hits as she and Shukaitis (2-for-4) each scored twice as the Profs plated seven runs in the fifth to break open a 3-0 lead at that points.

Leading 1-0 in the fourth, Abigail Pawlowski doubled home MacNair and would later score on an infield throwing error to pad the advantage to three runs.

In the fifth, Cat Thomas reached on a lead-off hit by pitch. Later in the frame with the bags full, she delivered a two-run single to center to put the wraps on a seven-run frame.

Rowan continues play on Saturday when the Profs welcome Rutgers-Newark in an NJAC Doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
