MAHWAH, NJ -- #13 Rowan and #23 Ramapo split a New Jersey Athletic Conference Doubleheader on Sunday as the Roadrunners took the first game, 3-0, with the Profs rebounding to take the second, 7-0.
Game one
Ramapo starter Marissa DiPaolo limited Rowan to two hits as the Profs had its 17-game win steak come to an end.
In the top of the first, Rowan would get two on but could not get on the scoreboard. The Roadrunners plated two runs in its first at-bat as a hit by pitch with the bases loaded followed by a sac fly put the Profs in a 2-0 deficit.
Emily McCutcheon came on in the first and finished with six strikeouts and one walk, allowing just one run on four hits in six innings.
That one run came in the sixth off an RBI single to give the home team a three-run lead.
Kaitlyn Riggs and
Grace Shukaitis each had a hit. DiPaolo would walk three and strike out three for Ramapo.
Game two
Rylee Lutz, who was lifted in the first inning of game one, roared back in game two with a one-hit shutout to help salvage the split.
Payton MacNair was 3-for-4 with an RBI.
McKenzie Melvin,
Liz McCaffery, and
Abigail Pawlowski each went 2-for-4. Pawlowski knocked in two runs with her two-run single in the third with Melvin and McCaffery driving in a run and scoring a run apiece.
Melvin scored on a two-out single in the first inning off the bat of
Cat Thomas. RBI singles from Melvin and McCaffery in the second added to the lead before a three-spot in the third made it 6-0.
It was more than enough for Lutz who allowed the lone hit on her first batter in the first inning and cruised to her tenth win on the year (10-5). The game was halted in the top of the seventh due to darkness.
The Profs will head to TCNJ on Tuesday for two in a conference twinbill. First pitch is slated for 2:30 p.m.
