Profs fall, 4-3, in 11 innings in the second game

GLASSBORO – Karson Harcourt drove in three runs and Mike Shannon earned the win as #18 Rowan defeated Ramapo, 13-2, in the first game of an NJAC baseball doubleheader. The teams split on the day as Ramapo won the nightcap, 4-3, in 11 innings. Rowan is now 16-8 (4-6 NJAC).

Game 1 Highlights

Game 1
The Profs exploded for nine runs in the fourth inning, starting with a two-run double from Harcourt. Kevin Stewart singled in a run with a bunt, while Phil Sedalis also drove in one with a base hit. Jason Morgan had an RBI single and Anthony Schooley reached on an error to bring home a pair of runs. Harcourt finished the rally as the Profs batted around, and the catcher drove in Morgan with a single to give the Profs an 11-1 lead.

Rowan took a 2-0 lead, as Tyler Cannon and Sedalis led off the game with back-to-back singles and both scored. Ramapo got on the board in its next at-bat and the Profs led, 2-1, before putting up nine more runs on the board.

Cannon added a sacrifice fly to score Chris Serrano in the sixth and although Ramapo added one more, Dylan Maria hit a solo homer, his team-best 10th of the year, to provide the final score.

Shannon (4-2) went 7.0 innings and struck out five, with Nick Cugino and Ronald Barnebei closing it out with an inning each in relief.

Harcourt went 2-for-5 with three RBI, Morgan was 2-for-5 with two RBI and Serrano was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Cannon, Sedalis and Maria each had two hits for the Profs.

Game 2
Ramapo (19-9; 8-2) scored the winning run in the top of the 11th as pinch runner T.J. Roman scored on Christian Alonso's sacrifice fly to right field, on a close play at the plate.

Rowan took a 2-0 lead as Pat Defeciani singled in Sedalis and he then scored on a wild pitch. But Ramapo added three in the second on two hits and two Rowan errors to take a 3-2 lead.

Schooley connected on his first home run of the year in the sixth, and it tied the game at 3-3, to stretch the contest into 11 innings.

Matt Choi made the start for Rowan and went 6.0 innings with Charlie Russell adding a strong effort in the seventh. Sean Colbert (0-1) finished out the final four innings and despite being saddled with the loss, helped extend the game to extra innings as he got out of a bases-loaded jam in the eighth.

Rowan will host York (PA) in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday and will head to TCNJ on Thursday for the first of a two-game series.
