GLASSBORO, NJ –
Chris Serrano and
Karson Harcourt had key hits and
Dylan Maria drove in the winning run as #20 Rowan defeated York (Pa.), 6-5, in non-conference baseball action today, with the Profs improving to 17-9 on the year.
Game Highlights
Phil Sedalis went 3-for-5 with two runs scored with
Jason Morgan and
Nick Struble chipping in two hits each. Serrano drove in two runs as did Maria, with the Profs totaling four doubles in the game.
Freshman
Nick Cugino (1-0) earned his first victory as a Prof in 2.1 innings of work with
Sean Colbert picking up his team-best third save of the season.
Shane Sax made the start for Rowan and in addition to Cugino, relievers
Jaxon Casdia,
Charlie Russell and
Jake Reese kept the Spartans scoreless through the final five innings.
Rowan wasted no time after York scored a run in the first inning. The Profs answered with four runs, starting with an RBI single from Maria to score Sedalis, and a double by Anthony Schoole that brought home
Jason Morgan. With two runners on, Serrano doubled to center field to score Schooley and Maria and give the Profs a 4-1 lead.
York (17-11) inched ahead after getting a solo home run from Connor Pickle in the second inning and then adding three more in the third to own a 5-4 lead.
The Profs again answered in the bottom of the same inning as Harcourt sent a pitch over the fence for his second home run of the year to tie the game, 5-5.
Rowan scored the eventual winning run in the fourth as Sedalis led off with a double, moved to third on a flyout by Morgan and then scored on Maria's sacrifice fly to center field.
The Profs return to NJAC play with a two-game series against TCNJ starting on Thursday in Ewing, with the second game in Glassboro on Friday.
