#6 Baseball Picks Up Split with Kean; Harcourt's Double Keys the Three-Run Inning in the 4-2 Win

Mike Shannon records personal-best 11 strikeouts in Game 1 pitchers' duel

GLASSBORO, NJ – Sixth-ranked Rowan scored three runs in the seventh defeat Kean, 4-2,  in the second game and salvage a split in the season-opening NJAC doubleheader. Kean (13-8; 1-1) won the first game, 1-0. The Profs are now 13-4 and 1-1 in the conference.

Game 2 Highlights

Game 1
Kean won the pitchers' duel, 1-0, with both starters going the distance, ruining a career-high 11 strikeouts from Rowan's Mike Shannon (3-1). It was the senior's second complete game of the year while he held the Cougars to just three hits.

Kean's Nolan Rowan held the Profs to five hits, with no extra-base hits, and struck out four to earn the win.

The Cougars scored the game's only run in the fourth inning when Phil Marcantonio doubled to drive in Gianni Marano, who had walked.

Over the final five innings, the Profs had just three hits and left only one runner on base.

Game 2
Rowan had only four hits in the game, but made them count. The Profs got their first hit of the game off starter Jason Gilman in the seventh, and put together the decisive inning.  Jason Morgan led off with a double, followed by a walk drawn by Dylan Maria. Pat Defeciani's sacrifice bunt advanced both runners and the Profs tied the game on a two-run double from Karson Harcourt. Rowan took its first lead of the day, 3-2, when Anthony Schooley singled home Harcourt.

Phil Sedalis hit his fifth home run of the season, a solo shot to increase the Profs' lead to 4-2 and provide the final margin.

The Profs had trailed and were hitless until the seventh as Kean took a 1-0 lead in the sixth after Marano led off with a double and scored on a single by Tyler Stone.

Zach Coluccio started and went 6.0 innings, striking out five and only surrendering one run but freshman Brayden Davis (2-0) earned the win, going 1.2 innings and keeping Kean off the scoreboard. Sean Colbert entered in the ninth and allowed just one hit to record his second save of the year.

Rowan will host a rescheduled non-league game on Monday afternoon against Penn State Harrisburg. First pitch is at 3:30 p.m.
