UNION, NJ -- #13 Rowan took two at Kean on Friday, winning, 6-0, in game one and, 6-4, in the second in the NJAC openers for both teams.
Rylee Lutz fired a seven-strikeout, four-hit shutout in game one with
Cat Thomas providing the offense, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and a home run while in game two, the Profs erased an early deficit to notch the team's 11th win in a row.
Game one
Lutz improved to 6-4 in winning her fourth-straight start while Thomas hit her team-leading third homer.
Breanna Bryant and
Kaitlyn Riggs had two hits apiece as a four-run fourth opened up a sizable lead.
Leading 1-0 heading into the fourth, Thomas' two-run, two-out single highlighted the frame. She then went deep in the sixth to account for the scoring.
Game two
The Profs scored five times on four hits, two walks, and two errors in the third to overcome a 3-0 Kean advantage. Four of the five Rowan runs came with two outs.
Liz McCaffery was 2-for-4 with a run and two RBI while
Payton MacNair went 2-for-3 with an RBI double as part of the five-run third.
Starter
Emily McCutcheon fanned five batters, yielding the four runs on nine hits and a walk to raise her record to 11-1.
Tied at 3-3 in the third, the Profs scored two runs on a throwing error to take the lead.
McCaffery added her second RBI single of the game in the fourth.
The Profs return to action here at home on Tuesday when William Paterson visits in an NJAC Doubleheader with game one starting at 2:30 p.m.
