#11 Softball Caps Florida Trip With Two Wins on Final Day

Profs extend win streak to five games

CLERMONT, FL -- #11 Rowan closed out its Florida Spring Break trip with two wins on Friday, first a 5-0 shutout win over SUNY-Geneseo followed by an 8-1 victory over Lake Forest. The Profs go 9-3 during the week, winning its last five games in a row.

Rylee Lutz tossed a three-hit, eight-strikeout shutout in the day's first game. Kaitlyn Riggs added a two-run double while Cat Thomas and Liz McCaffery each had two hits.

After McKenzie Melvin scored from third on an error in the third, Riggs later followed with her multi-run scoring double. She later came home on an RBI single from Morgan Tripodi for a 4-0 lead.

Thomas added her second run, this time scoring on a dropped fly from third after legging out her first career triple in the seventh.

Lutz would allow just one baserunner over the final three innings to pick up her third win on the year.

The trip's final game saw Payton MacNair go 2-for-4 with a solo home run and triple, scoring twice. McCaffery walked three times and Breanna Bryant tied a career high with three RBI's, going 2-for-3.

Starter Emily McCutcheon yielded the lone run on eight hits, going the distance to improve to 8-1 this season.

Leading 1-0 in the second, Bryant's two-run double highlighted a three spot for the Profs. Bryant later scored on a suicide squeeze from Melvin for a 4-0 advantage.

MacNair smacked her first homer of the season, a two-run shot in the third.

After the Foresters crossed a run in the top of the fourth, McCaffery countered with her RBI double to plate Melvin.

McCutcheon worked out of spots in the fifth and sixth innings, as Lake Forest had runners on second and third in both frames, but the sophomore was able to keep the visitors scoreless.

The Profs return home and will resume action on Saturday, March 23rd with a doubleheader at Haverford starting at 1 p.m.
